Helping In School
Would you like to help?
As a school we value and encourage parents to volunteer and greatly appreciate the impact this has on the children and their learning. In order to volunteer there are certain safeguarding requirements that you need to undertake which are outlined below. In addition, please complete and submit the parent helper volunteer form at the bottom of this page, we will then make contact with you. Should you have any questions please contact the school office.
DBS check application
If you would like to help in the classroom we ask that you go through the process of applying for a criminal record check (now known as a DBS check). Please email the office reception@horsell-village.surrey.sch.uk the following information;
- Full name
- Current address
- Telephone number
- Email to be used in the application
- Date of birth
On receipt of this information you will be set up with an application which will be emailed to the given address along with guidance notes to assist with the completion. Once you have completed the application please pop into the office with your reference number and three forms of identification as per the guidance note. Evidence of any name changes will be needed if stipulated in your application. We will then set up a payment for you through the online Scopay system (currently £12.50). There is also a Volunteer Declaration form which needs to be completed and can be collected from the office when you present your ID documents.
On receipt of your DBS certificate you must bring this into school for the office to view.
DBS Update Service
Volunteers & Governors are eligible to join the Update Service for free when you receive your DBS certificate, by using your certificate number. If you choose to do this, you must join the Update Service within 30 days of the ‘date of issue’ displayed on your certificate.
If you already hold an enhanced children’s workforce DBS and are registered for the Update Service and are looking to volunteer this may be suitable for use in school. Please bring your certificate into school along with three forms of ID as outlined in the guidance notes below. Please note that we are not able to accept any DBS certificates from other source other than via the Update Service.
Keeping your School DBS active
In order to keep your DBS active you need to volunteer in school at least once a term. If you are struggling to do this please contact the office.
Safeguarding
All volunteers are required to undertake safeguarding training before they can come in to school. In addition, a refresher course is required annually. These briefings will take approximately 30 minutes and are held in The Hive (Children's Centre) which is accessed via the pathway on the far right of the school car park. Please see below a list of future training dates;
- Friday 17 January at 9am
- Tuesday 11 February at 9am
- Friday 14 March at 9am
