History
At The Horsell Village School Enquiry and Investigation and the Arts are at the heart of the curriculum. It is our intent that our History curriculum will bring history to life and enable pupils to gain a developing knowledge and understanding of Britain’s past and that of the wider world (including the wider community). We want to inspire pupils’ curiosity about people and events that happened in the past. They will learn the knowledge and skills which enables them to enquire, research and analyse.
By building on their natural curiosity, we will encourage the children to ask their own investigative questions, discuss different methods of finding out answers and challenge their misconceptions through first hand experiences. This is linked to our learning cycle.
As our pupil’s progress, they will become equipped to ask perceptive questions, think critically, develop perspective and judgement. The National Curriculum will provide a structure for the knowledge and skills being taught through the school history curriculum.
By linking learning to a range of topics, children will have opportunities to investigate and interpret the past, understand chronology and to be able to communicate historically. They will use common words and phrases relating to the passage of time and learn about how significant people fit into a chronological framework. Through the use of artefacts or pictorial resources they will identify similarities and differences between ways of life in different periods.
