As we continue on our lunar journey we will be looking at different rockets, and constructing them using 3D shapes. We will also look at pictures from space and describe them. Using our imagination, we will create and draw aliens. We will also be learning about compass directions.
This week we will be using the story of Beegu to explore feelings, using speech bubbles. We will imagine what it might feel like to be lost on an alien planet and what might help us.
We are adding numbers to 10 using 10s frames and numicon, exploring how addition can be done in any order, challenging ourselves to find number bonds to 20, and applying our knowledge to problem solving.
Some ideas for home
- Practising telling the time, on an analogue clock, as you do different activities during the day.
- Visit Nasa’s children website and explore interesting space facts. https://www.nasa.gov/kidsclub/index.html
- Look around you for signs of Winter. Can you identify trees without their leaves?
- Sign up for the Big Garden Birdwatch https://www.rspb.org.uk/get-involved/activities/birdwatch/packrequest/

A typical day in Year 1
Start of the day
At 8:45 a.m. we come into the cloakroom by ourselves and hang up our coats and bags. We then find our name and peg in.
Lots of our learning takes place outside. Each of us will spend some time learning in the outdoor classroom.
We all spend some time learning together on the carpet.
After lunch we do handwriting and find out what we will be learning in the afternoon. Again we will spend part of the afternoon outside.
Ready steady go time
When we come into the classroom we choose one of the activities at the tables. When we are in the classroom we use our ‘Indoor Voices’.
At fruit time we make sure we wash our hands before getting our cup and piece of fruit. We sit down when we are eating and sometimes listen to music. When we have finished our fruit we always put our rubbish and cups away.
We have our hot school meals we eat in the canteen. Then we have time to play with our friends from the other classes.
We all go to the cloakroom and get our coats and bags ready to go home after a hard day at school.
